Anthropomorphism

Anthropomorphism

In out last lecture we discussed the way that non huamn characters can be given certain elements and qualitties and characteristics to make them more relatable to the story and more relatable to the audiance
there are many characteristics that are given to a character to give insight about them, it can be facial expressions, clothing, build, body languange etc.

at the present people try to relate their characters to the story line as good as possible we aim to make the characters fit in to a story which helps us understand the film or scene we are watching.

animation style

in our lecture we discussed several differect styles of animation, we campared how certain styles triumph over others. technology has a massive effect on the style of animation as it gives us more options to use and new techniques. CGI has benifited  the development of animation we are able to create some realistic and amazing scenes of animation using technology we are getting level with the uncanny vally everyday. although we use technology to help us with our animations we still use the same princaples of animation created decades ago.

In film  and television its has becom so popular to create complete sets purely digitally made we have done this good enough that the audiance is unaware of the effect that some might recognise it as real objects.we allways try to create realistic movements realistic proportions in animation from the start till now we are unable to perfect realism. we are able to create movement really well expressions really well but even with the latest technology for instance motion tracking we can capture realistic movements and then apply our designs based on that movement.

how real is the animation? this is a question that has gone in a animatiors head at least 100times. as we represent our animations we need to keep the audiance sucked in to the film and the best known for this is disney. disney animations are known to be the best. the movements and life that have been givin to the characters are real which gives life to a scene and keeps us intrested and amused.

technology does not make a good animation i personally think that people are getting this idea nowadays, everystyle of animation requres and follow the same priciples of other animations. we allways follow the same techniques in all of our animations we are able to produce more interactive imagery now however the animation goes down to the artist

Violance in film

in our lecture we talked about graphic scenes within games, films, books, etc. we discussed if violance in a medium can influence a person to become violent. violance has been in films for decades, i personally dont think this can influance people. just because we saw a man in a film kill some one doesnt make us do it. although accurances have happend where people have thought to be influenced by violance in a film or game an example from this is one of the boys from the Columbine shootings the boy apparantly was a heavy gamer on DOOM he was previously banned from playing the game which people thought that was the reason of his actions.

although i disagree that DOOM was the influance of the killing however in games we cant die, we kill then kill, thenn die and then get respawnd, in a sence we are gods in our game we do what we desire, with no care or consiquence. the boy from the killing might have had a mental illness or was instable and the thought of not being able to play the game he wants outraged him, he could have thought u was god himself who can take life by his hand.

We also discussed the different types of violence and how we react to them for example in cartoons there is violance called slapstick a good use of this would be looney tunes this violance is different the characters from Looney Tunes never die and usually go back to the normal and unharmd state after a fight for instanfe. we all have our limits and judge things differently compared to what we have seen previously, this is different between people, a person might have had a violance time in his past and is used to it and by watching the film he is completly unnerved by this. on the other hand age has a massive effect on how violance is percieved, to make things simple u wouldnt put a 7 year old ina saw film as they are not used to this kind of violance.

Genre

in the lecture we discussed what "genre" is. i wanted to discuss gnre within games. in games genre actually means and different gameplay style. Gameplay styles are the way that the player interacts with the game environment, it could be a strategy, adventure, shooters this could be from the perspective of a character or the audiance might interact with the game in a platform this is when the player is the focus of the screen and the player would jump from one secton to the other a good example is donky kong the player has to jump from one level to the other to save his lover. Genre tends to relate to the environment and themes within the story, such as gears of war which is classed as a war game/shooter which in genre it would fall under a war game. different games have different genres however these genre are all effected by the playform of the game itself.

Narrative, bills first lecture

In our lecture we discussed narrative and how its portrayed in film through time persiods and how significant it is to make a good film. films require a narrative and this has not changed. with better special effects and computer generated imagery we are now able to create realalistic elements to help inhance our films however this does not make old films dull or obsilite. as many old films without special effects are very good and memorable

I think that films in general are visually appering to be better, special effects improve the effects nessesary for a film which we now are able to generate effectivally where as in the past the effects brought attention to the medium! again this does not mean that old films are bad. We all recognise special effects in the 21rst century and i can say we are used to them. as we are in a different time period we have more experiance with the generated imagery where as lets say when films where first created people thought it was uncanny unfamilliar to what they are seeing. nowadays we can watch films with brilliant special effects and generated imagery and still be unsatisfied with the film, stoy lines and narrative are vital to make a film successful and most of the films created there is a slight replication to something that was done before. Nowadays I think that films are being simply recreated with inspiration from previous films. this has become so popular in the industry even cartoons like family guy, south park recreate films like the "shawshank redemption" remade by family guy and indiana jones by south park.i personally feel that films released now are so obsessed with the attainment of realism that the story line is not that important to them. in the lecture i had a mind wonder as we do. i compared the film avatar and the film inseption. personally i found that the special effects in avatar where the best ive seen however inseption has some special effects which where not as good as avatar however i really like inseption. just becuase it had a good story i have chosen inseption over avatar as a great film as an audiance we are able to realate a narrative and the better the narrative the more intrested the audiance will be.

In games we expect a good narative however we also expect good game play, in this situation we need to work on both lets say there was this game produced which had the best narrative and story in all of history but with awefull game play, this would not be succesfull people get sucked in to games with out a story to it, pacman tetris? these games have no begining or ending, dippending on the format in a game the narrative might not even be important and its all about the player. but still.... narrative is important, i play games all the time, my favourite game to play is call of duty, however this is not my favourite game of all time i think gears of war was my best ever game, i enjoyed the story line i was sucked in emotionally following the story line.

people are forgetting the importance of narrative i personally think that a anrrative has the most effect on makeing a film a success.

Structuralism

In our last lecture we discussed Structuralism.
When we think of an object we think about where it fits in between extremes called binary oppositions. as an example black and white, they are complete opposites. Man has allways represented black as dark/evil/scary and white as happy/pure/kind. However we do not represent a person wearing black to be evil or intemidating as we dont think any person who wears white is a saint there is no specific determination of an object/person from these points without any additional elements. the space between these two points are called the anomalous zone which sits different elements to a representing point. another example of this could be centaurs, these creatures have the uppser body of a man and the lower body of a hourse, however we do nor know any of the characteristic of it.

In games or lets say shooters in particular, when we spot a character our mind is engaged to understand it, we look at the clothing and think of opposites "is he wearing my teams cloths". another example is guns fallen from players, when see a gun on the floor and walk towards it we think to our selfs "character has died" "character is alive" though this is a simple example in games. In general if a character in a solo game walks towards you, we quickly analyse opposits, lighting/dark, are the clothing black/white and these elements help us understand what we are looking at

When we look at something our brain analyses elements/features of that object we think in opposites, its our nature to do so. for instance when looking at a dirty ashtray we look at it and we achnoledge that it is dirty and the binary opposite to this is having it clean we subconsiously imagin the opposites and evalute the object we are looking at.

Intertextuality

Since the start, people have been learning new things creating, manipulating ideas to take us where we are now, unfortunatlly nowadays there is nothing new or unique and any great work that has been produced has been influanced by some other work eaither intentionally or not.

In this weeks lecture we lernt about intertextuality. Intertextuality is the refrencing of media in one piece linked to a former one, this could be anying from clothing to painting's to games. intertexuality can be split into homage to recreate media in a respectfull/memorable way. It can also be split in to parody where people will use the previous media and recreate a more comedic version which in most cases taken at the expense of the previous media.

an example of a parody is the series family guy, they recreated 3 of stephen Kings stories in this case chainging the key aspects to have a comedic version, they reproduced "Shawshank's Redemption, Stand by me and misery. in the present day parody's are gaining popularity.
