Narrative, bills first lecture

In our lecture we discussed narrative and how its portrayed in film through time persiods and how significant it is to make a good film. films require a narrative and this has not changed. with better special effects and computer generated imagery we are now able to create realalistic elements to help inhance our films however this does not make old films dull or obsilite. as many old films without special effects are very good and memorable

I think that films in general are visually appering to be better, special effects improve the effects nessesary for a film which we now are able to generate effectivally where as in the past the effects brought attention to the medium! again this does not mean that old films are bad. We all recognise special effects in the 21rst century and i can say we are used to them. as we are in a different time period we have more experiance with the generated imagery where as lets say when films where first created people thought it was uncanny unfamilliar to what they are seeing. nowadays we can watch films with brilliant special effects and generated imagery and still be unsatisfied with the film, stoy lines and narrative are vital to make a film successful and most of the films created there is a slight replication to something that was done before. Nowadays I think that films are being simply recreated with inspiration from previous films. this has become so popular in the industry even cartoons like family guy, south park recreate films like the "shawshank redemption" remade by family guy and indiana jones by south park.i personally feel that films released now are so obsessed with the attainment of realism that the story line is not that important to them. in the lecture i had a mind wonder as we do. i compared the film avatar and the film inseption. personally i found that the special effects in avatar where the best ive seen however inseption has some special effects which where not as good as avatar however i really like inseption. just becuase it had a good story i have chosen inseption over avatar as a great film as an audiance we are able to realate a narrative and the better the narrative the more intrested the audiance will be.

In games we expect a good narative however we also expect good game play, in this situation we need to work on both lets say there was this game produced which had the best narrative and story in all of history but with awefull game play, this would not be succesfull people get sucked in to games with out a story to it, pacman tetris? these games have no begining or ending, dippending on the format in a game the narrative might not even be important and its all about the player. but still.... narrative is important, i play games all the time, my favourite game to play is call of duty, however this is not my favourite game of all time i think gears of war was my best ever game, i enjoyed the story line i was sucked in emotionally following the story line.

people are forgetting the importance of narrative i personally think that a anrrative has the most effect on makeing a film a success.
